The Shift is a desired state of mind connecting us to our soul, hence to the divine. It has to be achieved for oneself,

Ramzi Cheety holds a BA in Finance and Accounting, is a director of Finance and Treasury,

| OUR MUSICAL HERITAGE AND SPIRITUAL LEGACY |
Feb 19 |
|
For me, the experience of "Creator" can be likened to memory, and memory, I perceive as being fluid. Memory is not of the present,
it is activated in the present. It is a bridge to the future. It is affirmation of a Divine presence, past, present and future.
In the same manner, memory and hope are inseparably paired. It is the richness of memory past (not unlike Dickens's infamous character portrait)
that triggers the present and gives hope for the future. This is the beauty of denominational traditions, great and beautiful buildings, magnificent
works of art and the like. They are of the past but give hope for the future.
In their own way hymn texts and tunes do the same thing and thus embrace a functional spirituality. They open up a richness of past experience, trigger present memory and give hope for the future.
Adding to this body of material and experience is a natural human endeavour. If it were not so, great buildings, traditions, liturgy and works of art would not exist.
Dr. Bruce Wheatcroft has spent most of his working career in the service of the church as a conductor, organist, teacher and administrator.
He holds a D.Min. in theology from St. Stephen’s College, Edmonton, a M.Mus in Musicology from the University of Alberta, a B.Mus. in organ performance from the
University of Calgary and the ARCCO diploma from The Royal Canadian College of Organists. He is a co-founder of The Abbey for the Arts, Inc.,
his country home, which functions as a retreat centre for the arts and other special interest groups. At The Abbey, he serves as workshop leader, facilitator, teacher, or as host for others using the facility.
